Dr. Burns is a board certified psychiatrist in private practice, treating teenagers and adults, with a special interest in young people. He is a clinical professor of psychiatry at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital where he teaches and supervises psychiatric residents.
A native of New Jersey, Dr. Burns went to medical school at Drexel University, served an internship in internal medicine at Hahnemann Hospital and completed a psychiatric residency at the Institute of Pennsylvania Hospital. During a two-year tour in the Air Force he became chief of the mental health department at Eglin Air Force Base.
After returning to civilian life, Dr. Burns was the director of several adult and adolescent treatment programs until he entered full time private practice in 1976. He received a number of teaching awards from teaching at the Institute of Pennsylvania Hospital, Hahnemann Hospital, and Pennsylvania Hospital.
